Nanking Cherry Trees

The year M was born was the first year Daddy's Nanking Cherry Trees blossomed. Every year since then we've enjoyed the beautiful array of pinkish white flowers. This year Mommy and M watched each day as they became buds and then "popped" into flowers. She still calls trees with blossoms "popcorn trees" and is thrilled when we walk under them.

Just for your knowledge, nanking cherries are really bushes, not trees...they make a wonderfully tart freezer jam but the pits are just about as big as the cherries. The cherries are about the size of your pinky's nail. I've made jam out of them each year. It is a labor of love that we will miss them when we move.
